Eucharistic Prayer

Eucharistic Prayer
By Terry Kyllo

Pastor: The Lord be with you
Community: And also with you
Pastor: Lift up your hearts
Community: We lift them up
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
Community: It is right to give our thanks and praise

Creator of all that we see
Maker of things beyond our imagination
And Holy Mystery of life
We give you thanks for calling Abraham and Sarah
And all their children
to be a blessing to all people
In your call you sought to restore them to the dignity that is the birthright of every human:
To live in love for you, ourselves, others and all your creation

[Therefore we pray with all creation, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord. . . ]

Yet Abraham and Sarah and all their children have fallen short
We have claimed to be better than others
To know more than we do
And sought to hold your gift of love for our own
Fearful there would not be enough for us

Yet through truth-tellers you reached out to us
And in the loving arms of Mary and Joseph
You became one of us
You knew human joy and suffering
And welcomed all to be children of Abraham and Sarah
You revealed that your infinite love is enough for us
And for all

To celebrate your love for all on the night before he died for us, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
